Al-Shabab FC is a professional football club based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Founded in 1947, it is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in Saudi Arabian football. The club's name "Al-Shabab" means "The Youth" in Arabic.
Al-Shabab plays its home matches at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium, which has a capacity of 22,500 spectators. The club's traditional colors are white and black, which are prominently featured in their home kits.
Throughout its history, Al-Shabab has achieved significant success in domestic competitions. They have won the Saudi Professional League six times, with their first championship coming in the 1990-91 season. The club has also claimed three King's Cup titles and one Saudi Federation Cup.
One of Al-Shabab's most successful periods was in the early 2000s. They won three consecutive league titles from 2004 to 2006, establishing themselves as a dominant force in Saudi football during that time. This period also saw them make significant strides in continental competitions.
In terms of continental success, Al-Shabab has been a regular participant in the AFC Champions League. Their best performance in this competition came in 2010 when they reached the semi-finals, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
Al-Shabab has been home to many talented players over the years, both domestic and international. Some notable names include Saeed Al-Owairan, who famously scored a memorable goal for Saudi Arabia in the 1994 World Cup, and more recently, players like Nasser Al-Shamrani and Hassan Muath Fallatah.
The club has a strong youth academy and has been known for developing local talent. Many players who have come through Al-Shabab's ranks have gone on to represent the Saudi national team.
In recent years, Al-Shabab has faced increased competition from other Saudi clubs that have made significant investments in their squads. Despite this, they have remained competitive, regularly finishing in the top half of the league table and qualifying for continental competitions.
Al-Shabab has a rivalry with other Riyadh-based clubs, particularly Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr. These derby matches are highly anticipated events in the Saudi football calendar.
