Burton Albion Football Club, commonly known as Burton Albion or the Brewers, is a professional football club based in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. The club was founded in 1950 and has since developed a strong identity rooted in the local brewing heritage, which is reflected in its nickname. The Brewers play their home matches at the Pirelli Stadium, which they moved to in 2005 from their previous ground, Eton Park. The stadium has a capacity of approximately 6,912 and provides an intimate setting for fans to support their team.Initially, Burton Albion joined the Birmingham & District League before switching to the Southern League eight years later. The club's early years were marked by fluctuating fortunes, with promotions and relegations within the Southern League. They achieved notable success by winning the Southern League Division One title in the 1965-66 season. However, it was not until the late 1990s that Burton began to establish itself more firmly within the English football league system. In 2001, under the management of Nigel Clough, Burton Albion made significant strides by winning the Northern Premier League and earning promotion to the Conference (now National League). This period marked a turning point for the club, as they began to rise through the ranks of English football. Clough’s leadership was instrumental in guiding Burton through this successful phase, culminating in their promotion to the Football League as Conference champions in 2009.Burton's ascent continued as they reached League Two and subsequently enjoyed further success by winning the League Two title in the 2014-15 season. This achievement secured their promotion to League One for the first time in their history. The club's journey into higher leagues brought new challenges but also excitement and growth for both players and supporters. One of the highlights of Burton Albion's recent history occurred during their time in the Championship after being promoted in 2016. They competed at this level for two seasons before facing relegation back to League One in 2018. Despite these challenges, Burton has maintained a competitive spirit and continues to strive for success. The club's fan base is known for its loyalty and passion, creating an electric atmosphere at home matches. The Brewers have a friendly rivalry with nearby clubs such as Walsall and Stafford Rangers, which adds an extra layer of excitement to local fixtures. In recent seasons, Burton Albion has faced difficulties that tested its resilience. After a challenging start to the 2022-23 season, manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink resigned, leading to Dino Maamria taking over. Under Maamria’s guidance, the team managed to secure survival in League One after a tumultuous campaign. As of June 2024, significant changes occurred within the club's ownership structure when Chairman Ben Robinson sold a majority stake to Nordic Football Group (NFG).
