Dundee United are a professional football club based in the city of Dundee, Scotland, who play their domestic football in the Scottish Premiership. The club is nicknamed "The Terrors" or "The Tangerines," due to their distinctive tangerine-colored home shirts. Dundee United play their home games at Tannadice Park, which has been their home since 1909 and has a capacity of 14,223.

Founded in 1909 as Dundee Hibernian, the club changed its name to Dundee United in 1923. They have been a fixture in Scottish football for over a century, with their most successful period coming in the 1980s under the management of Jim McLean. During this era, Dundee United won their only Scottish league title in the 1982-83 season, as well as two Scottish League Cups.

Dundee United's greatest achievement in European competition came in 1984 when they reached the semi-finals of the European Cup, narrowly losing to AS Roma. In 1987, they went one step further in the UEFA Cup, reaching the final where they were defeated by IFK Gothenburg. These European runs established Dundee United as a force to be reckoned with on the continental stage.

The club has won the Scottish Cup twice, in 1994 and 2010. Their 1994 victory was particularly memorable as it came against Rangers, ending a 20-year trophy drought. Dundee United have also been runners-up in the Scottish Cup on eight occasions, demonstrating their consistency in reaching the latter stages of cup competitions.

Dundee United's local rivals are Dundee FC, with whom they contest the Dundee derby. This rivalry is one of the most intense in Scottish football, with both clubs being located within close proximity to each other in the city of Dundee.

In recent years, Dundee United have experienced both promotion and relegation. They were relegated from the Scottish Premiership in 2016 but bounced back by winning the Scottish Championship in 2020, securing their return to the top flight. Since their return, they have worked to establish themselves as a stable Premiership club.
