These teams qualify through their respective continental championships, with the host nation automatically securing a spot. Other nations that have achieved success include Portugal and Serbia, each with two titles, while Ghana, Germany, Spain, France, England, Ukraine, Russia (as the USSR), and Uruguay have each won once. The tournament has seen many notable players rise to prominence, including Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi.

The U-20 World Cup serves as an important platform for young players to showcase their skills on an international stage. The most recent edition took place in 2023 in Argentina, where Uruguay claimed their first title.
