Hibernian Football Club, commonly known as Hibs, are a professional football club who play their domestic football in the Scottish Premiership. The club has the nickname "The Hibees" or "The Cabbage," and are based in the city of Edinburgh. The nickname "The Cabbage" is derived from the rhyming slang for Hibs ("Cabbage and Ribs"). Hibs famously play in green and white shirts. They play home games at Easter Road, which has been their home since 1893 and has a capacity of 20,421.

Hibernian were founded in 1875 by members of Edinburgh's Irish community, making them one of the oldest clubs in Scotland. They joined the Scottish Football League in 1893. Since their inception, they have won four Scottish league titles, three Scottish Cups, and three Scottish League Cups. The club's first major silverware came in 1887 when they won the Scottish Cup, defeating Dumbarton 2-1 in the final. In European competitions, they have participated in various UEFA tournaments, with their most notable achievement being reaching the semi-finals of the first-ever European Cup in 1955-56.

The most famous period in the club's history was in the late 1940s and early 1950s when they won three league titles in five years (1948, 1951, and 1952). This era was defined by the "Famous Five" forward line of Gordon Smith, Bobby Johnstone, Lawrie Reilly, Eddie Turnbull, and Willie Ormond, who are still revered in club folklore.

Hibs hold various records in Scotland, including being the first British team to participate in the European Cup. They also hold the record for the biggest margin of victory in a Scottish top-flight match, defeating Airdrie 15-1 in 1960. The club has been in the top flight of Scottish football for the majority of its existence, with only a few brief spells in the second tier.

The club's biggest rivals are Heart of Midlothian, the other major football team from Edinburgh. The Edinburgh derby is one of the oldest and fiercest rivalries in world football, dating back to the 1870s. Matches between these two teams are always highly anticipated events in the Scottish football calendar.

In recent decades, Hibernian have established themselves as a consistent force in Scottish football, regularly finishing in the top half of the Premiership and challenging for European places. They ended a 114-year wait for Scottish Cup glory in 2016, defeating Rangers 3-2 in a dramatic final.
