Bundesliga, having previously played several seasons at this level after achieving promotion from lower divisions. Holstein Kiel plays its home games at Holstein-Stadion, which has a capacity of 15,034 spectators.
Founded in 1900, Holstein Kiel is one of northern Germany’s oldest clubs with deep-rooted traditions. The club’s colors are blue and white; they are nicknamed "Die Störche" (The Storks), reflecting an emblematic bird featured on Kiel’s coat of arms.
Holstein Kiel boasts a rich history that includes winning significant titles early on; notably they won Germany’s championship title back in 1912 against Karlsruher FV—a proud moment that remains etched into their legacy.
For much of its recent history though Holstein Kiel played primarily within lower tiers until experiencing resurgence over recent years—achieving promotion to 2.Bundesliga after finishing strong during campaigns leading up through regional leagues culminating with success at this level since 2017. In recent years they have often challenged to be promoted into the Bundesliga, and succeeded in 23/24 season. They have also been known for famous DFB-Pokal runs, including eliminating Bayern Munich during second round match.
