The Jordan national football team, known as Al-Nashama (The Chivalrous Ones), represents Jordan in international football matches. It is governed by the Jordan Football Association and is a member of FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The team's colors are red and white, reflecting the colors of the Jordanian flag.
Since their international debut in 1953, Jordan has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup but has made significant strides in Asian football. They have qualified for the AFC Asian Cup six times, with their best performance coming in 2023 when they reached the final, finishing as runners-up to Qatar. This marked their first appearance in the final of a major tournament.
Jordan has achieved success in regional competitions, winning the Arab Games twice (1997 and 1999) and finishing as runners-up in the WAFF Championship three times (2002, 2008, and 2014). The team plays its home matches at the Amman International Stadium and King Abdullah II Stadium.
Amer Shafi holds the record for most caps with 171 appearances, while Hamza Al-Dardour is the top scorer with 33 goals. Jordan's highest FIFA ranking was 37th, achieved in August and September 2004. As of October 2024, they are ranked 64th.
Under the current management of Jamal Sellami, Jordan continues to strive for success on both the Asian and global stages. Their recent performance in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, where they defeated teams like Iraq, Tajikistan, and South Korea en route to the final, has reignited hopes for future success.
Jordan's football history has seen periods of development and stagnation. However, their recent re-emergence under coach Hussein Ammouta, who led them to their historic Asian Cup final appearance, has marked a new era for Jordanian football. The team's FIFA ranking rose to 70th following this achievement, their highest since September 2014.
