The Mexico national football team (Spanish: Selección de fútbol de México) represents Mexico in international football and is governed by the Mexican Football Federation (Federación Mexicana de Fútbol, FMF). Competing as a member of CONCACAF, Mexico has established itself as one of the most successful teams in the region. Known as El Tri or El Tricolor, the team’s colors—green, white, and red—reflect the Mexican flag.

Mexico has qualified for 17 FIFA World Cups since their debut in 1930, making them one of only six countries to qualify for every tournament since 1994. Their best performances came when they hosted the World Cup in 1970 and 1986, reaching the quarter-finals on both occasions. The team played France in the inaugural match of the first World Cup and has consistently been a strong contender in international competitions.

Historically, Mexico is the most successful national team in CONCACAF, having won twelve confederation titles, including nine CONCACAF Gold Cups and three CONCACAF Championships. They also won the FIFA Confederations Cup in 1999, marking a significant achievement as the only team from CONCACAF to win an official FIFA competition. Additionally, Mexico has participated in Copa América since 1993, finishing as runners-up twice.

The team has produced numerous legendary players over the years, including Hugo Sánchez and Javier Hernández, who is Mexico's all-time top scorer with 52 goals. The current squad features talents like Edson Álvarez and Hirving Lozano. The Estadio Azteca in Mexico City serves as their home stadium and has hosted two World Cup finals.

In recent years, Mexico's performance has seen ups and downs. They reached the Round of 16 in seven consecutive World Cups but failed to progress past that stage in 2022. After a disappointing showing at the 2024 Copa América, head coach Jaime Lozano was dismissed. However, they remain a competitive force in international football and are set to co-host the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and the United States.
