Molde FK
Norwegian football team.
Molde FK is a professional football club based in Molde, Norway. Founded in 1911, Molde has grown to become one of the most successful Norwegian clubs in recent years. The team plays its home matches at the Aker Stadion, also known as "Rosenes by" (The City of Roses), which has a capacity of 11,800 spectators. Molde's traditional colors are blue and white.
Throughout its history, Molde FK has experienced significant success, particularly in the last three decades. The club has won the Norwegian top division, Eliteserien, five times (2011, 2012, 2014, 2019, and 2022), with all of these titles coming since 2011. This period of dominance has established Molde as one of the powerhouses of Norwegian football. In addition to their league success, Molde has also claimed the Norwegian Cup five times, most recently in 2022, completing a domestic double.
Molde's rise to prominence in Norwegian football can be largely attributed to the influence of Ole Gunnar Solskjær, both as a player and a manager. Solskjær, who gained international fame as a player for Manchester United, had two successful spells as Molde's manager, leading them to their first-ever league titles in 2011 and 2012, and again in 2019.
In European competitions, Molde has made significant strides. The club has regularly participated in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League qualifiers, with their most notable achievement coming in the 2020-21 season when they reached the Round of 16 in the Europa League, becoming the first Norwegian side to progress that far in the competition since 1999-2000.
The club's academy has produced several players who have represented Norway at the international level, including current stars like Erling Haaland, who began his career in Molde's youth system. Molde's main rivals are Rosenborg BK, with whom they contest what has become known as "The New Classic" in Norwegian football.
