It is governed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the governing body for football in Nigeria. The team is a member of CAF in Africa and FIFA in global competitions. Their colors are primarily green and white, reflecting the Nigerian flag, and they are colloquially referred to as the Super Eagles.
Since their first appearance in the FIFA World Cup in 1994, the Super Eagles have qualified for six tournaments, with their best performance being a Round of 16 finish in 1994. They have also participated in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 37 times, winning the tournament three times, with their most recent title coming in 2013. Nigeria has a rich footballing history, having won gold at the 1996 Olympics and finishing as runners-up in the 2008 Olympics.
The team has produced many notable players over the years, including legends like Jay-Jay Okocha and current stars such as Victor Osimhen and Wilfred Ndidi. The Super Eagles' all-time leading scorer is Rashidi Yekini. Nigeria's passionate fan base contributes to a vibrant football culture that supports the team through successes and challenges.
In recent years, Nigeria has focused on rebuilding its squad and developing young talent. Despite failing to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, they remain a formidable force in African football.
