Northampton Town Football Club, commonly referred to as Northampton Town or simply Northampton, is a professional football club based in Northampton, England. Founded in 1897, the club has a rich history and is affectionately nicknamed "The Cobblers," a tribute to the town's historic shoemaking industry. The team plays its home matches at Sixfields Stadium, which opened in 1994 and has a capacity of approximately 7,798.Northampton Town began its journey in local leagues before joining the Northants League, where they quickly found success. They won the championship in their second season and subsequently moved to the Midland League. In 1901, they joined the Southern League and enjoyed considerable success, culminating in winning the Southern League title in 1908-09. This victory allowed them to compete in the FA Charity Shield against Newcastle United, marking their first appearance on a national stage.In 1920, Northampton was elected to the Football League and began competing in Division Three (South).
