Greek football team.
Panathinaikos FC is a professional football club based in Athens, Greece. Founded in 1908, Panathinaikos is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in Greek football. The team plays its home matches at the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium, which has a capacity of 16,003 spectators. Panathinaikos's traditional colors are green and white, earning them the nickname "To Trifylli" (The Shamrock).
Throughout its history, Panathinaikos has been a dominant force in Greek football. The club has won 20 Greek Super League titles, 19 Greek Cups, and 4 Greek Super Cups. This impressive collection of silverware has established Panathinaikos as one of the most successful clubs in Greek football history. Their first major success came in 1930 when they won their first Greek Cup, followed by their first league title in 1948.
Panathinaikos's success extends beyond domestic competitions. The club has a rich history in European tournaments, with their most notable achievement coming in the 1970-71 season when they reached the final of the European Cup (now UEFA Champions League), becoming the first Greek team to do so. Although they lost to Ajax in the final, this run put Greek football on the map and remains one of the greatest achievements in the club's history. Panathinaikos has since been a regular participant in European competitions, reaching the semi-finals of the European Cup in 1985 and 1996.
Panathinaikos boasts one of the largest and most passionate fan bases in Greece. The supporters, known as the "Gate 13" ultras, are renowned for their impressive choreographed displays and vocal support. The club's main rivals are Olympiacos, with whom they contest the "Derby of the Eternal Enemies," one of the most intense rivalries in world football.
