Espanyol, officially known as Real Club Deportivo Espanyol de Barcelona, is a professional football club based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Founded in 1900, Espanyol is one of the oldest football clubs in Spain and has a long-standing rivalry with their more famous city neighbors, FC Barcelona. The club currently competes in the Segunda División, the second tier of Spanish football, following their relegation from La Liga in the 2022-23 season.

Espanyol play their home games at the RCDE Stadium, which opened in 2009 and has a capacity of about 40,000 spectators. The team's traditional colors are blue and white, earning them the nickname "Blanquiazules" (White and Blues). Throughout their history, Espanyol have been known for their resilience and ability to compete despite often being overshadowed by Barcelona.

The club has won the Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup) four times, with their most recent victory coming in 2006. Espanyol has also had success in European competitions, reaching the UEFA Cup final twice, in 1988 and 2007, though they lost on both occasions. Despite these achievements, Espanyol has never won La Liga, with their highest finish being third place, achieved in the 1966-67 season.

In recent years, Espanyol has faced financial challenges and struggled to maintain consistent form in La Liga. Their relegation in 2023 was a significant setback, but the club remains focused on returning to the top flight and re-establishing themselves as a competitive force in Spanish football.
