Real Valladolid Club de Fútbol, commonly known as Real Valladolid, is a professional football club based in Valladolid, in the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain. Founded on June 20, 1928, the club has a long and storied history in Spanish football, having spent many seasons in La Liga, the top division of Spanish football.
The team plays its home matches at the Estadio José Zorrilla, which has a capacity of 27,846 spectators. The stadium, named after the famous Spanish poet José Zorrilla, has been the club's home since 1982. Real Valladolid's colors are violet and white, which has led to their nickname "Pucela" or "Blanquivioletas" (White and Violets).
Throughout its history, Real Valladolid has been known as a club that often oscillates between the first and second divisions of Spanish football. They have had several spells in La Liga, with their most successful period coming in the 1980s. During this decade, the club achieved their highest-ever finish in La Liga, coming fourth in the 1962–63 season.
One of the most significant moments in the club's history came in 1984 when they reached the final of the Copa de la Liga, losing to Atlético Madrid. Despite not winning major trophies, Real Valladolid has consistently produced talented players, many of whom have gone on to represent the Spanish national team or play for larger clubs.
In recent years, Real Valladolid has gained international attention due to its ownership. In September 2018, Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazário became the majority owner of the club, purchasing a 51% controlling stake. This acquisition brought renewed interest and ambition to the club, with Ronaldo stating his intention to build Real Valladolid into a competitive force in Spanish football. The club has several supporter groups, with the most prominent being the "Fedelisimos," who have been supporting the team since 1928.
