Rosario Central

Argentinian football team.

Club Atlético Rosario Central is a professional football club based in Rosario, Argentina. Founded on December 24, 1889, by railway workers, it is one of the oldest football clubs in Argentina and has a rich history in the country's football landscape. The club plays its domestic football in the Argentine Primera División.

Rosario Central's home games are played at the Estadio Gigante de Arroyito, which has a capacity of 41,654 spectators. The stadium, inaugurated in 1929, is known for its intense atmosphere and is considered one of the most intimidating venues for visiting teams in Argentina. The club's colors are blue and yellow, typically worn in vertical stripes, earning them the nickname "Canallas" (Scoundrels) or "Auriazules" (Blue and Golds).

Throughout its history, Rosario Central has been one of the most successful clubs outside of Buenos Aires. They have won the Argentine Primera División four times, with their first title coming in 1980. Their most recent league triumph came in 2017 when they won the Supercopa Argentina. In addition to their league success, Rosario Central has also won the Copa Argentina twice, in 2018 and 2023.

On the international stage, Rosario Central has also left its mark. In 1995, they won the Copa CONMEBOL (a precursor to the current Copa Sudamericana), becoming the first team from Santa Fe province to win an international title. This victory remains one of the proudest moments in the club's history.

Rosario Central has a strong rivalry with Newell's Old Boys, the other major club from Rosario. The club has produced numerous talented players who have gone on to have successful careers both in Argentina and abroad. Some of the most notable include Cesar Luis Menotti, who later became a World Cup-winning coach with Argentina, and Angel Di Maria, who has starred for clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain.

In recent years, Rosario Central has experienced both highs and lows. After winning the Copa Argentina in 2018, they struggled in the league and were relegated to the Primera Nacional in 2020. However, they bounced back immediately, winning promotion back to the Primera División in 2021. As of the 2023-24 season, Rosario Central continues to compete at the highest level of Argentine football, challenging for league titles and cup competitions.
