Brazilian football team.

Palmeiras, officially known as Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, is one of Brazil’s most successful football clubs based in São Paulo. Founded in 1914 by Italian immigrants as Palestra Italia, the club changed its name to Palmeiras during World War II. Renowned for its distinctive green jerseys, Palmeiras is affectionately called "Verdão" (Big Green). The team plays its home matches at Allianz Parque, a modern stadium with a capacity exceeding 43,000 spectators.

Palmeiras has an illustrious history marked by numerous achievements. The club has won an impressive total of 11 Brazilian Championship titles—more than any other team—and four Brazil Cups. Their first major success came in 1920 when they secured the Campeonato Paulista title. The club enjoyed significant success during the mid-20th century; notably, they won multiple state championships and were crowned champions of the Torneio Rio-São Paulo on several occasions.

The late 1990s were particularly fruitful for Palmeiras under manager Luiz Felipe Scolari when they claimed numerous domestic and international titles. They won their first Copa Libertadores title in 1999 and followed it up with another triumph in 2020 and again in 2021. This established Palmeiras as a formidable force on both national and continental stages. The club's historical significance also includes being recognized as one of Brazil's "Big Twelve" clubs due to its consistent performance over decades.

Palmeiras' fierce rivals include Corinthians and São Paulo FC; matches against these teams are highly anticipated events that showcase intense competition within São Paulo's footballing landscape. The passionate fanbase known as "Palmeirenses" creates an electric atmosphere during home matches at Allianz Parque.
