Associazione Calcio Lazio, commonly referred to as Lazio, is a professional football club based in Rome, Italy. Founded on January 9, 1900, Lazio competes in Serie A, the top tier of Italian football. The club is nicknamed "I Biancocelesti" (The White and Sky Blues) due to their distinctive white and light blue striped shirts. Lazio plays its home matches at the Stadio Olimpico, which has a capacity of approximately 70,000 spectators.
Lazio has a rich history filled with successes and challenges. The club won its first Italian championship (Serie A title) in 1900 and has since established itself as one of Italy's most successful football clubs. Lazio has won two Serie A titles (1973-74 and 1999-2000), seven Coppa Italia trophies, and five Supercoppa Italiana titles.
One of Lazio's most notable achievements came during the late 1990s when they experienced significant success under coach Sven-Göran Eriksson. In addition to winning their second Serie A title in 2000, Lazio also claimed their first Coppa Italia title that same year. This period solidified Lazio's status as one of Italy's top clubs.
Lazio's European exploits have been equally impressive; they won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1999 by defeating Mallorca in the final. They have also participated regularly in European competitions such as the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
The club enjoys a fierce rivalry with AS Roma, known as the "Derby della Capitale" (Rome Derby). Matches between these two clubs are highly anticipated events that capture the attention of fans across Italy and beyond.
