The Spain national under-21 football team, known as La Rojita (The Little Red), is managed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and competes primarily in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship. Established following the reorganization of UEFA's youth competitions in 1976, the team has a strong competitive history, having won the championship five times: in 1986, 1998, 2011, 2013, and 2019. They are tied with Italy for the most titles in the tournament's history.
Spain's under-21 team has also been runners-up twice, showcasing their consistent performance at this level. The team's first international match was a 4-1 loss to Yugoslavia on October 9, 1976, and their biggest win came in a remarkable 14-0 victory against San Marino in 2005.
The current head coach is Santi Denia, with Bryan Gil serving as captain. Notable players who have represented the under-21 team include Gerard Deulofeu, who holds records for both the most appearances (36) and goals (17). The team's development programs have been instrumental in producing talent for Spain's senior national team, contributing significantly to their success in international football.
Spain's under-21 squad plays its home matches at various venues across the country, promoting youth football and engaging fans.
