That season was particularly memorable as they finished sixth in the league, which remains one of their highest-ever league positions. However, following this success, the club faced a series of challenges. By the late 1980s and early 1990s, Swansea struggled with relegation and financial difficulties. They fell into the Fourth Division in 1986 and spent several years trying to regain their status in higher leagues. The club's fortunes began to change in the early 2000s when they secured promotion back to the Football League after winning the Third Division title in 2000.The mid-2000s marked a significant turning point for Swansea City. Under manager Roberto Martínez, the team adopted an attractive style of play that emphasized possession and attacking football. This approach led to promotion from League One at the end of the 2007-08 season, followed by another successful campaign in the Championship that saw them reach the Premier League for the first time in their history in 2011.Swansea's debut season in the Premier League was historic, as they became the first Welsh club to compete at this level since its formation in 1992. They quickly established themselves as a competitive side, finishing 11th in their first season and showcasing their ability to compete against some of England's top teams. In 2013, Swansea City achieved a remarkable milestone by winning their first major trophy—the Football League Cup—by defeating Bradford City 5-0 in the final at Wembley Stadium. This victory not only secured silverware but also qualified them for European competition for the first time. The club has enjoyed various successes over the years but has also faced challenges with relegation from the Premier League and subsequent promotions back to higher divisions.
