His first loan move came in January 2015 when he joined Welling United in the Conference Premier (now National League).
This spell gave King his first taste of senior football, making 8 appearances for the club.The following season, King had two separate loan spells. In August 2015, he joined Braintree Town, also in the National League, where he made 11 appearances. Later that season, in March 2016, he moved to Stevenage in League Two, making 4 appearances and gaining his first experience in the Football League.
King's breakthrough at Millwall came in the 2016-17 season when he made his debut for the club in an EFL Cup match against Nottingham Forest. He went on to make 17 appearances for Millwall that season across all competitions, including 14 in League One. King joined Salford City ahead of the 2021/22 season, establishing himself as the first-choice goalkeeper. He made 38 appearances for the club across all competitions, keeping an impressive 14 clean sheets. Tom King signed for Northampton Town on January 14, 2023, on a six-month deal after agreeing to a release from his Salford City contract. During his short stint with Northampton, King made 8 appearances and kept 4 clean sheets.
He initially went straight into the starting lineup, keeping four clean sheets in his opening eight appearances. However, King soon fell out of favor with manager Jon Brady and was relegated to the backup role behind Lee Burge.
