The United States men's national soccer team (USMNT) represents the United States in men's international soccer competitions. It is governed by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), which is a member of FIFA and CONCACAF. The team is known for its diverse player pool and has made significant strides in international soccer over the years.

The U.S. has appeared in eleven FIFA World Cups, with their debut in 1930 where they reached the semifinals, a remarkable achievement as they finished third based on overall tournament records. They returned to the World Cup in 1934 and 1950, famously defeating England 1-0 in the latter match, which is considered one of the greatest upsets in World Cup history. After a long absence, the U.S. qualified again in 1990 and hosted the tournament in 1994, where they reached the Round of 16.

In the 2002 World Cup, the U.S. had a memorable run to the quarterfinals, defeating Portugal and Mexico along the way. The team has also competed successfully in continental tournaments, winning seven CONCACAF Gold Cups and three CONCACAF Nations League titles. Their performance at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup was notable as they reached the final after defeating top-ranked Spain.

The late 2010s saw a new generation of players emerge, often referred to as America's golden generation, including talents like Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, and Tyler Adams. This group contributed to a resurgence of interest in soccer in the U.S., culminating in their qualification for the 2022 World Cup after missing out on the previous tournament in 2018.

In Qatar, the U.S. advanced to the knockout stage after finishing second in their group and faced the Netherlands in the Round of 16. Despite being eliminated with a 3-1 loss, their performance demonstrated growth and potential for future success.
