The Uruguay national football team (Spanish: Selección de fútbol de Uruguay), nicknamed La Celeste (The Sky Blue), represents Uruguay in international men's football and is administered by the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF). Uruguay has a rich footballing history, being one of the oldest national teams established in 1900. The team has won four major titles organized by FIFA: two Olympic gold medals and two FIFA World Cups. Their first two senior world titles came at the Olympic tournaments in Paris 1924 and Amsterdam 1928, where they defeated Switzerland 3-0 and Argentina 2-1, respectively.

Uruguay hosted the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930, winning all its matches and defeating Argentina 4-2 in the final. Their second World Cup victory came in 1950, famously beating Brazil 2-1 in a match known as the Maracanazo, which remains one of the most iconic moments in football history. In addition to their World Cup successes, Uruguay has won the Copa América 15 times, making them one of the most successful teams in South America.

The team's early history saw them dominate regional competitions, winning several South American Championships. However, after their golden generation retired following the 1935 South American Championship, Uruguay faced challenges in maintaining their status as a football powerhouse. They experienced ups and downs through the decades, including a resurgence in the late 20th century with players from Nacional and Peñarol.

In recent years, Uruguay has seen success with a new generation of stars like Luis Suárez, Edinson Cavani, and Diego Forlán. They reached the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and won the Copa América in 2011. Despite failing to progress past the group stages in the 2022 World Cup, Uruguay remains a competitive force on the international stage. The team plays its home matches at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, a historic venue that hosted the first World Cup final.
